Police constable burns self



A female police constable allegedly committed suicide by pouring kerosene on herself at a barrack in Gouripur Police Station in Mymensingh on Sunday.

Police super of Mymensingh Syed Nurul Islam told UNB that it seems Halima Khatun reportedly set herself on fire by pouring kerosene in a bid to commit suicide at the barrack around 3pm, leaving herself critically injured with first degree burns.

She was first taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and later referred to Dhaka for better treatment.

Halima died on the way to Dhaka around 6pm, said the SP.

Halima, daughter of Helaluzzaman of Gourakanda village in Shemganj of Netrakona district, suffered 95 percent burns, said acting director of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Dr Laxmi Narayan.

Meanwhile, the district police formed a three-member probe committee, headed by an additional police super of the district, to investigate the matter, said SP Nurul.

They will be able to find the reason behind the incident after the investigation, added the SP.
