Samsung Galaxy S8 breaks pre-order record in Korea

Pre-orders for Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus hit 550,000 in two days, the company’s highest in South Korea, local media reports.
The volume is 2.75 times that of the Galaxy Note 7 and 5.5 times that of the Galaxy S7 for two days, Hankyung said.
The Galaxy S8 Plus 128 Gigabyte (GB) model was in the most demand. The version is the first in Korea to boast a 6GB RAM.
The long absence of a flagship phone following the Note 7 debacle and the South Korean tech giant’s aggressive marketing campaign likely contributed to the high pre-orders, the report said.
The company is operating 3,000 pre-sales trial zones, its largest ever in Korea, for the phones ahead of official sales.
Samsung began pre-orders of the new phones on Friday in South Korea, Canada, and the US. Pre-ordering customers can start using the phones upon delivery after April 17 — before official sales begin on April 21.
Analysts in Korea estimate that the new phones will help Samsung reach record profit in the second quarter of the year. The conglomerate is expecting its second-highest profits ever for the first quarter thanks to strong demand for memory chips.
