Hasina to address 500 businessmen

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina who is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Friday morning will attend a business event at Hotel Taj Palace on Monday with around 500 businessmen being expected to join it, reports news agency UNB.The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) eyes a greater trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and India that will benefit both sides.“We feel very close to Bangladesh. We’ll be happy to facilitate business cooperation between the two countries,” CCI Principal Adviser Sushanta Sen told UNB.Stressing the importance of making visits, he mentioned that they need to go to Bangladesh and want Bangladeshi businessmen to come to India. “We can facilitate it.”
There will be a big business event with the participation of top business leaders from Bangladesh and India here on 10 April which will help the two sides interact for future collaboration.Inviting Bangladeshi investors to invest in India, Sen said, “You need to have a balance.”
He said India’s Northeast is a place where Bangladesh can export a lot. “Our approach to Bangladesh, being a friendly neighbour, to help increase trade and investment and generate employment.”Sen said Bangladesh is growing well and it has the potential to grow in a bigger way utilising its potential. “Your growth is very impressive.”He suggested Bangladesh to give more focus on education and healthcare and build world-class institutions. “These are my very, very humble suggestions to Bangladesh.”CCI Director, Economic Policy and Research, Shobha Ahuja made a presentation before an eight-member media delegation comprising editors and senior reporters now visiting New Delhi at the invitation of the External Affairs Ministry ahead of the prime minister’s four-day visit.She said India has the potential to grow faster but they still have a long way to go.Ahuja mentioned that Bangladesh and India have the advantage of having a large number of young population. The Indian market is an open one and there is a potential to grow trade relations between Bangladesh and India.CCI regional director Manish Mohan also said some 500 businessmen will attend Monday’s business event when some MoUs to be signed between both sides.
